I strolled over to the
BATA shoe museum. I wondered how can you make a museum dedicated to shoes? It is literally a voyage through 4500 years of footwear. They had an ancient egyptian shoes found in the pyramids. They had very old Hindu, Jewish, and Muslim shoes. They had German shoes from the 1490s and Chinese silk shoes worn by ladies with baby feet. They had shoes for unusual purposes like cracking nuts or planting seeds, and as you may be able to imagine these shoes had pecular shapes. Footwear has changed over time and the shoes were laid out in an interesting way.
They also had famous footwear.
One of my favorite in the famous people's footwear section was Bonapart's socks.
Overall I would give Bata show museum a 4 out of 5. It was completely interesting and enjoyable. It was culturally fascinating. My only regret is that I took my 4 year old here with me. My visit was rushed. I had to do the quick version while chasing after my daughter. It is not really the perfect museum for little kids. They do have books about shoes for children, but the books don't keep a four year olds attention long.
